67x91 cm Manjushree Thanka
This beautifully painted thanka is of Manjushri, god of knowledge along five Buddhas on top and two Bodhisattvas ofcompassion and power i.e. Chengrezi on left and Bajrapani on right respectively. Often a triad of Avalokitesvara,Manjushree and Bajrapani is known as Rigsum Gonpo.
This thanka / thangka is painted by a master with intense care using 24k gold and colors. Each and every part shows fine details.
Manjushree,an important Bodhisattva is depicted with a flaming sword in his right hand, representing wisdom which cuts down ignorance and duality and a lotus along with Prajnaparmita Sutra on the left hand.
According to Swayambhu Purana, the Kathmandu Valley was once a lake. It is believed that Manjushree saw a lotus flower in the center of the lake and cut a gorge at Chovar,southern hill to allow the lake to drain where the lotus flower settled transformed into Swayambhunath Stupa and the valley thus became habitable.The stupa is renown as one of the holiest Pilgrim for Buddhist around the world and is listed in the world heritage list in 1997 by UNESCO.
Most Popular wrathful manifestation of Manjushree is yamantaka ( terminator of Yama i.e. Death).
